The Angels' Mirror Series in Kindle

Hello, and Happy New Year to you all! I hope the Christmas season has been full of joy and blessings for you and yours...

As some of you might know already, the whole Angels' Mirror series has gone up for Kindle by now. While I had hoped to also have the paper versions out at this juncture, there have been some quirks in the system, so I will let it be for a time.

You can find the links for each book in the series at my Amazon author page. Photos of the covers, in order, are below. Edward's Heart is currently FREE on Nook and .99 on Amazon. The remainder of the series is $3.99 a copy on Amazon for Kindle.

Happy reading,
Harmony L. Courtney

Editing Update

Just a quick update for this weekend's post.

I have finished re-editing the first four books of The Angels' Mirror series and edited the fifth and sixth. The final book, I begin editing either Sunday evening or Monday morning. After that, I just need to see about re-doing the first four covers (ebook cover for number one is done) and then, for the rest of the series.

It is my hope that all seven will be available on Amazon in their final form before the end of the year. And I find that quite exciting.

The titles in this series are:
Edward's Heart
Rose for Rose
Tangled Tingle of Fire
A Thread of Silence
Heaven's Otaku
Whispers from Siloam
And the Angels Rejoiced

It has been a great honor to write them, and a wonderful journey. I hope you will take the time to check them out once they are announced released/ re-released. :)

The second series, Brass Mermaid Mysteries, is still slatted to begin this coming year with the first two, possibly three titles.

On Genre and Such

With a long week, I'll be honest... I didn't prepare as much for this weekend's post as I normally would. But I'm in the middle of a conversation with one of my cousins right now who was asking about the genre of The Angels' Mirror series, and it hit me:  on Amazon and various other sites, you can only choose so many options for genre.

The Angels' Mirror is definitely unique in where it fits. It's a seven book long mystery at it's core, but it's base is in alternative fiction. Namely, in time travel and fantasy. There's romance and intrigue. There's redemption, and therefore, it's inspirational, too. And it's most definitely Christian.

So, what to call this series? That's a good question.

It's one I'm still pondering and experimenting with.

Fellow writers, when you have multiple genres touched upon in a book or series, what was it that helped you decide? Cover art similarities? Description similarities? Something else?

It's always an interesting topic.

Character Creation and Research

One of my favorite aspects of writing is character creation, followed closely by researching topics and places related to the book I'm working on.

I've just about got my three main characters down, and many others fairly well created, which is exciting. I can hardly wait to introduce you to Lani, her sidekicks, and their town.

So, as I wait to get final edits done for the first book series, The Angels' Mirror, it's been wonderful getting some things done in preparation for Brass Mermaid Mysteries. I'm looking to seeing a few returning characters, and meeting new ones... I hope you are, too!

Fellow writers, what's your favorite aspect of the book-writing process?

Links to the Past

Some of you who have begun to read The Angels' Mirror series might be wondering what inspired me to begin with the family of King James and his wife, Mary of Modena.

And why start from France?  Edward could have been transported from anywhere, using any of a number of modes, right?

When I began writing Edward's Heart,  I had not decided yet to create a series of from the book. I got about 50 pages into it before I realized that it would make a better series than it would a stand-alone.

I have always been intrigued by history, and the idea of time travel. I began to wonder what traveling through time may be like for a royal who, really, was also a bit of an outcast. And what better way to make Edward an outcast royal than for his birth to come from scandal?  It's something that he had no control over.

Since finishing the series (all seven books of which should be up within the next few months), I realized that there was more of a connection between myself and the historical characters than I thought.

For example,  Louis XIV, I have learned, is my 8th cousin 13x removed. James VI of Scotland and II of England is my 8th cousin 9x removed. I had known that I was related before,  but not looked into how, precisely.

For me,  iit makes the series all the more special,  despite not being a direct descendant of any of the people I utilized as characters.

And so, those are my links to the past, and the series.

What's the Stir All About?

So, some of you who are new to Of Angels and Mermaids might be wondering the connection.

Aside from the sense of awe both creatures (one real, one fictitious but based on real creatures, or so the story goes) have - a sense of fear and wonder - they're each connected to a series of books.

So, this blog is to connect them together.

One week, I might share about one of the regions mentioned in The Angels' Mirror series, and in the next, I might introduce someone from the second series, Brass Mermaid Mysteries. And sometimes, I will highlight a character or place that connects to them both.

For example, both highlight the Pacific Northwest, but in very different ways.

If you've read any of The Angels' Mirror series, you'll know that it not only crosses time, but place. One timeline even merges into another, while all of them connect together to create the story; to get the mystery in a fuller scope.

Brass Mermaid Mysteries, like The Angels' Mirror, will have some elements of fantasy, but will not fit into the Speculative Fiction category in the same way. But you'll get to see some characters you already love and got to know in the first series - written at a time prior to the main timeline in The Angels' Mirror.

So, whether you're a fan of angels (like I am), of are curious about mermaids, then these books will resonate with you. And they will do so in very different ways.

Check back next weekend to learn more, and have a great week!

Tea Parties and Time Travel

Tonight, I have been hanging out at a virtual tea party.

A tea party set in 1855 Santa Barbara,  California. It's right here, and goes until 9pm, Pacific Time.

And while visiting, it got me thinking: not only does Paloma enjoy a good tea party, but so does Lani.

For those of you who are familiar with The Angels' Mirror series, you may be asking who Lani is.

Today, I want to introduce you to the protagonist of my upcoming series, Brass Mermaid Mysteries. Her name is Hokulani Kealoha, but she goes by Lani. She is the owner and head baker at The Brass Mermaid Bakery.

She's also got great gumshoe instincts.

So, along with her friends Vela and Bryony Cate, and the occasional help of others, Lani  finds herself in curious predicaments and with plenty of cases to solve.

A friend Prudence Song's prior to the time she joined HUVA, Lani Kealoha is certainly a character to remember.

Look for Brass Mermaid Mysteries beginning in the Spring of 2015.
